Mobility Comes to JustServe

By Leisa Parsons, Area Media Specialist

Today marks the 25th anniversary of Mobility Worldwide and it has never been easier to join them in bringing the gift of mobility to others. Mobility Worldwide is now listed on JustServe in San Antonio as a monthly service opportunity. On the last Saturday of each month, volunteers can go to the small San Antonio workshop to help build and assemble some of the three-wheeled vehicles.

The hand-cranked three-wheelers are great on rough terrain and have blessed the lives of more than 80,000 people over the last 25 years. The skills needed to help build these carts are easily taught to volunteers and a great deal can be accomplished during the three-hours.

This past Saturday, Denny Mack, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, grabbed his family and other medical colleagues to accompany him as they worked on building the carts. Mack, a rehabilitation doctor at the UT Health Science Center said, “In my profession I see the immense obstacles that impairments can create in the lives of those affected, and that is here in a community with a large amount of resources to help. I can only imagine how difficult it is in areas of the world not only with more problems that lead to injuries and impairments but also with such limited access to care.”

Mack said, “I am excited about helping with the mission of Mobility Worldwide.” Their mission, simply put, is “to reflect the love of God by bringing mobility and dignity to those in developing countries who are unable to walk.” See how these carts are used.

Mack would love to work with some of his medical colleagues and perhaps look at helping to distribute the carts and possibly provide medical assistance in the future. He said, “My hope is that with this I can bring the community of service minded rehab medicine professionals together with the good workings of Mobility Worldwide and help where needs are greatest.”

The San Antonio workshop is one of 29 mobility workshops across the globe. They have 70 distribution partners in 106 different countries.

Mack said, “I would not have been able to learn about this need and an opportunity to help without the JustServe app to connect me with…mobility worldwide.  JustServe – Give the gift of Mobility
